Who doesn’t love a good quote? I’m always saving new ones I find on my Pinterest here, and I have referenced my favorites so many times. Eloquent and wise words can be so helpful when you feel down or just need to be inspired to press on. I’ve also written several blog posts where I break down things I’ve learned from some of my favorite quotes over anxiety, fulfilling your dreams, and having faith.
I never want to let the words of others take precedence over God’s Word, which is why I never try to save anything that I know will contradict Him. (I also wrote a blog post over common quotes I see that I don’t like, read it here.) But I think the wisdom of others in certain areas can be a very valuable tool, as we can learn from all sorts of people. As long as you seek His truth first and follow Him above all, you will be well equipped to know which quotes can help encourage you, too. I love finding quotes where people share their own perspectives or help me understand something a bit better, and I think the best quotes strike that perfect balance of raw conviction, inspiring assurance, and powerful insight. Today I thought I’d round up some of my favorite ones I have saved in all sorts of areas I like to read them from. I only hope to write quotes as beautiful as some of these one day. I hope you enjoy my picks, and be sure to save this post for future reference!
Anxiety and Worry
“Sometimes the best thing you can do is not think, not wonder, not imagine, not obsess. Just breathe, and have faith that everything will work out for the best.” ~curiano.com
“Never forget: How far you’ve come. Everything you have gotten through. All the times you have pushed on even when you felt you couldn’t. All the mornings you got out of bed no matter how hard it was. All the times you wanted to give up but got through another day. Never forget how much strength you have learned and developed.”
“Stop thinking about everything so much, you’re breaking your own heart.” ~(https-absent)
“Anxiety happens when you think you have to figure everything out. Turn to God. He has a plan.”
Faith and God
“God is not letting you down. He’s letting you learn.”
“God wants us to worship Him. He doesn’t need us, for He couldn’t be a self-sufficient God and need anything or anybody, but He wants us. When Adam sinned it was not he who cried, ‘God, where art Thou?’ It was God who cried, ‘Adam, where art thou?’” ~A.W. Tozer
“He wants all or nothing. The thought of a person calling himself a ‘Christian’ without being a devoted follower of Christ is absurd.” ~Francis Chan
“If you be a Christian, be a Christian, and be a marked and distinct one.” ~Charles Spurgeon
“If you knew, really knew, how much God loves you, not one fear would remain in your heart.” ~Blaise Paschal
“There is nothing in the Law of God that will rob you of happiness; it only denies you that which would cost you sorrow.” ~C.H. Spurgeon
People and Relationships
“Don’t chase people. Be an example. Attract them. Work hard and be yourself. The people who belong in your life will come find you and stay. Just do your thing.”
“Human history is the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.” ~C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
“If a man wants to be used by God, he cannot spend all of his time with people.” ~A.W. Tozer
“Adam was not lonely because he was imperfect. Adam was lonely because he was perfect. Adam was lonely because he was like God, and therefore, since he was like God, he had to have someone to love, someone to work with, someone to talk to, someone to share with. All of our other problems—our anger, our anxiety, our fear, our cowardice—arise out of sin and our imperfections. Loneliness is the one problem you have because you’re made in the image of God.” ~Tim Keller
“Modern Christians hope to save the world by being like it, but it will never work. The Church’s power over the world springs out of her unlikeness to it, never from her integration into it.” ~A.W. Tozer
“Obedience isn’t legalism it’s a symptom of salvation” ~C.S. Lewis
“One of the most important lessons you can learn is that a healthy love does not hurt it heals” ~L.E. Bowman
“Some lose all mind and become soul, insane. Some lose all soul and become mind, intellectual. Some lose both and become accepted.” ~Bukowski
“When you finally learn that a person’s behavior has more to do with their own internal struggle than it ever did with you…you learn grace.”
Thoughts and Emotions
“A secret to happiness is letting every situation be what it is, instead of what you think it should be.” ~www.ishouldhavesaid.net
“DON’T BE POSITIVE, BE AUTHENTIC I stopped running away from my negative emotions. I stopped running away from my feelings. I stopped pretending like I had it all together. I started accepting that I felt messed up. I let myself breakdown to get ready for a breakthrough. Sometimes when you are always focusing on being positive, you are avoiding the pain that makes you stronger.” ~@Ledbyheart
“Happiness isn’t getting all you want. It’s enjoying all you have.” ~curiano.com
“I understand now that I’m not a mess but a deeply feeling person in a messy world. I explain that now, when someone asks me why I cry so often, I say, ‘For the same reason I laugh so often—because I’m paying attention.’” ~Glennon Doyle Melton
“Most of the pain you’re dealing with are really just thoughts…ever think of that?”
“Never let the sadness of your past and the fear of your future ruin the happiness of your present.”
“Some things break your heart but fix your vision.” ~www.heyjuliarae.com
“The only thing making you unhappy are your own thoughts. Change them.” ~curiano.com
“We finally find happiness once we stop believing it is somewhere else.” ~Ashley Hetherington
“We suffer more often in our imagination than in reality.” ~Seneca
“Your greatest need is to clean out the enormous mass of mental and emotional rubbish that clutters your mind. You need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life, work on controlling your mind. In most cases, that’s the only thing you should be trying to control.”
I have so many more quotes I love to read and remember, and these are just a couple of the ones I find most relevant. Let me know which quotes are your favorite and any you’d add to the list!
